DescriptionGreen Quartz and Silver RingI made this ring from shining, sterling silver and set it with a fantastic and unusual pale green quartz. I love the way this stone looks like a delicious little sweet. It is hand engraved by me with close attention to detail using long practised and carefully honed skills. I designed the swirling patterns on both sides of the ring to catch the light. I draw what I see in music into my sketchbook; the engraved design is based on these drawings. The green of the quartz mirrors the hints of other colours that appear amongst the silver as I listen to the music that inspires my drawings. One edge is shiny and burnished the other retains the satisfying crackled texture from the making process. A unique ring, I never make the same thing twice. Therefore I have a strong visual impression of shape, colour, movement and sometimes texture when I hear music. The Green Quartz and Silver Ring is inspired by what I see when I listen to the song Falling Away With You by Muse. Electric guitar is silver, greys and whites and lightning-like shapes. The pale green quartz mirrors one of the colours that I see when I hear bass guitar playing. It’s smooth shape also reflects the more rounded shapes I see in the bass. The sterling silver I used to make this Green Quartz and Silver Ring comes from old and broken silverware and cutlery. Consequently, I can eliminate the need for newly mined silver in my work. I melted a piece of old silverware down. Then I hand forged the resulting ingot of molten silver into this Green Quartz and Silver Ring. This ring has a full UK Hallmark which guarantees it is sterling silver.
