The brooch is hand forged from one piece of silver, and as a result, it is flowing, chaotic and crackled like the guitar playing that inspired it. I never make the same thing twice consequently this Rose de France statement brooch is a one-off piece. This sculptural brooch is from my ongoing series of unique hand-sculpted jewellery. The Rose de France stone was hand cut by a lapidarist in the UK.Music As InspirationI am synaesthetic which is a neurological trait where the senses are crossed.  Therefore I have a strong visual impression of shape, colour, movement and sometimes texture when I hear music. This Rose de France statement brooch is inspired by what I see when I listen to music.  As a result, the twisted shapes in this Rose de France statement brooch are little snippets of electric guitar music made tangible by my synaesthesia. To me, electric guitar looks like lightning made of mercury. Hence this large silver brooch curls and twists in response to crackled and distorted electric guitar playing. The pale lilac of the Rose de France mirrors the complex purples I see when I hear a bass guitar, as a result, this piece includes the treble of the electric guitar and the low end of the bass. Consequently, this eliminates the need for newly mined silver in my work. I melted a piece of old silverware down. Then I hand forged the resulting ingot of molten silver into this free-form sculptural brooch.Rose de FranceRose de France is a variety of pale lilac amethyst, and amethyst is a kind of quartz. Amethyst varies from a very dark purple to pink and rose de France sits at the very pale end of purple with a hint of pink. A UK based lapidarist has given this gorgeous clear piece of rose de France a deep faceted cut.
